Aim to eat every three to four hours

Eat the same amount of food every day but instead of just having two or three meals a day spread them out. It will help to keep your blood sugar levels stable so your body can burn fat that much more effectively. Your blood sugar levels are incredibly important for the body as glucose which is its main source of fuel. Eating regularly and little and often remembering to include things like wholegrain and fibre rich foods will avoid too many fluctuations in blood sugar levels and help you to function better as well. A handful of nuts and a apple, or maybe a yoghourt with some berries is all it takes.

Always eat breakfast

If you miss breakfast it will mean you feeling low and tired and hungry and far more likely to snack on foods which contain a lot of calories per gram, i.e. calorie dense foods. Don’t let your body think it’s starving. Try to start your day with a nice mix of protein and complex carbohydrates and include some essential fats in there as well which will turn your body into fat burning mode. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just wholegrain cereal with semi skimmed milk or maybe berries and porridge with those ever so helpful nuts again and perhaps a banana, job done.

Feed your thyroid

Your metabolic rate is controlled by your thyroid and it also determines the speed at which your body burns calories. If it’s working fast it’s very likely to burn more calories fast. A good healthy eating plan and lifestyle also helps keep your thyroid gland active. Foods that are high in iodine like seaweed, various algae and fish increase thyroid activity as does potassium which is interestingly enough found in avocado and pistachios.
