The Mirror Shift Moment: When you change the way you look at yourself, everything else shifts as a natural byproduct—your energy, your physical vitality, and your life.
MIDlife crisis or midlife wake-up call?

MIDlife crisis or midlife wake-up call?

Monday, September 14, 2026

Perhaps it’s time we stopped seeing midlife as something to fix.

And started seeing it as a point of reflection.

You might be in your 40s, 50s, 60s or beyond.

From the outside, your life might look successful.

You have a career.A home.Responsibilities.People who rely on you.

Yet something doesn't feel right.

Perhaps you:

• Wake up tired, despite getting enough sleep.

• Have gained weight and don't feel comfortable in your own body.

• Look in the mirror and don't quite recognise the person looking back.

• Feel your confidence has taken a knock.

• Spend your week waiting for the weekend.

• Feel trapped in a career that once gave you purpose.

• Keep putting your own needs at the bottom of the list.

• Eat when you're stressed, bored or emotionally drained.

• Second-guess yourself more than you used to.

• Feel stuck, but aren't sure what you actually want instead.

• Wonder where the years have gone.

• Think about the things you wanted to do but never got around to doing.

• Look at younger people and wonder whether you've missed your opportunity.

If any of this sounds familiar, perhaps you don't have a midlife crisis.

Perhaps you're having a midlife realisation.

You're starting to question whether the life you've built still fits the person you've become.

And that's an important distinction.

You are not the same person you were at 25.

You've experienced relationships, successes, disappointments, career changes, loss, responsibility and life.

You've learned.

You've changed.

Your priorities have changed too.

So why would you expect yourself to continue living by the same rules?

Your past isn't the problem.

Looking backwards can teach you something.

Living backwards cannot.

You cannot change the decisions you made 10, 20 or 30 years ago.

But you can decide what happens next.

This is where mindset becomes important.

After more than 25 years working in coaching, nutrition and personal training, I've learned that lasting change rarely starts with another diet, another gym membership or another attempt to force yourself into someone else's idea of success.

It starts with understanding you.

Your beliefs.

Your habits.

Your relationship with food.

Your emotional triggers.

Your confidence.

Your identity.

Your lifestyle.

And the reasons you keep repeating patterns you already know aren't serving you.

My work brings together NLP, hypnotherapy, life coaching, weight management and nutrition coaching to address the person behind the problem.

Because weight gain is rarely just about food.

Lack of confidence is rarely just about appearance.

Feeling stuck is rarely just about your job.

And burnout is rarely solved by simply telling yourself to “slow down”.

There is usually something deeper driving the pattern.

That is where meaningful change begins.

You don't need to become younger.

You need to become more comfortable with who you are now.

You have something at 50, 60 or 70 that you didn't have at 20.

Experience.

You know more about yourself.

You know what matters.

You know what doesn't.

And you have the opportunity to use that knowledge rather than regret the years that have passed.

Your next chapter doesn't have to look like your last one.

It doesn't need anyone else's approval.

It needs to fit you.

If you're successful on the outside but struggling on the inside, perhaps it's time to stop asking:

“What's wrong with me?”

And start asking:

“What needs to change?”

That is the work I do.

Helping men and women change their mindset, rebuild their confidence, improve their relationship with food and create healthier lives that fit who they are today.

Because getting older isn't the end of your story.

It might be the point where you finally start writing it for yourself.
